Seeking an Experienced Forensic Auditor

Forensic Accountant - Albany ACFE

The State University of New York System Administration, Office of the University Auditor located in Albany, New York, is seeking an experienced Forensic Auditor. The Forensic Auditor will be responsible for planning, conducting, and managing investigations of fraud and irregularities regarding SUNY and its campus-related entities reported to the Office of the University Auditor. The selected candidate will be expected to manage complex investigations which could involve significant financial analysis, analytical review, document review, and witness interviews.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess, categorize and record allegations, as well as monitor them throughout the investigation life
  • Determine the best methodology to analyze financial and record keeping evidence.
  • Research Federal and State laws and regulations, SUNY policy and procedures, and generally
    accepted accounting and management principles to determine relevant criteria.
  • Apply appropriate forensic auditing and accounting techniques to detect fraud and irregularities.
  • Identify potential control weaknesses or anomalies, assess the impact of potential weaknesses and
    formulate possible solutions.
  • Review test results and accurately identify symptoms, root cause, problems, and identify alternative controls.
  • Prepare audit reports and assist with communications to management.
  • Evaluate the completeness of the corrective action plans provided by management.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • BA/BS Degree in accounting, criminal justice or related major from an accredited college or university.
  • Two to five years of satisfactory full-time experience conducting investigations and audits of financial and regulatory areas; including significant experience conducting complex and document­ intensive investigations and forensic accounting.

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Advanced Degree in a related discipline and/or Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified Fraud
  • Experience in higher education and government accounting or auditing.
  • Proven ability to balance an active load of multiple cases.
  • Demonstrated ethics and sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - attentive listener and concise written and oral communications.
  • Remains composed and focused under stress.
