Course Description: This presentation will
cover the basic principles of how to plan, conduct and document an
interview. To many it may be a good refresher or an opportunity to learn
a few “tricks of the trade” on how to improve your interviewing skills.

About the Speaker:
John D. Brennan, is a Senior Consultant working on various forensic
engagements at BST, an Albany based CPA firm. Prior to his retirement in
2006 from New York State's Office of the State Comptroller, he was an
audit manager in the Bureau of State Expenditures. The Bureau is
responsible for auditing nearly than $80 billion in transactions prior
to payment. John had management responsibility for auditing expenditures
approximating $16 Billion in the functional areas of all contract
payments and Unemployment Insurance payments. The Contract Audit Team
was responsible for analyzing contract and related payment transactions
for trends and patterns exhibiting the characteristics of potential
fraud, waste, and abuse. He was also responsible for supervising staff
in their audit / investigation of these expenditures.
John graduated from Siena College in 1968 and was a career employee of
the Office of the State Comptroller with more than 38 years of
experience. He spent a substantial portion of his early career in the
Bureau of Management Audit where he worked on and/or supervised a wide
range of various state agency audits involving topics such as
construction, tax, health, education, student financial aid, lease and
building maintenance and contracts. As a result of these assignments,
he developed a wide range of audit experiences.
John has provided numerous training sessions focusing on fraud, waste,
and abuse in purchasing, payments, and contract issues to a wide range
of audiences including State agencies, The Institute of Management
Accountants, The National State Auditors Association, The NY--NJ
Intergovernmental Audit Forum, The American Accounting Association, and
The Australian Institute of Professional Investigators and CFE's. He is
also an adjunct faculty member at Sage College in Albany.
John is an active member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
(CFE) past president of the Albany Area Chapter and current chapter
education director.
